Agri-Food Pilot

The Agri-Food pilot is a 3-year pilot program that offers a pathway to permanent residence for agricultural workers in Canada. With this pilot program, agricultural workers and their families may able to work and live in Canada for as long as they like as against the usual short-term and seasonal work permits available to workers in the agri-food industry. The total applications aim of the Agri-food pilot program per year is 2,750 principal applicants (excluding their families). Please bear in mind that there are annual limits on the number of applications that will be processed for each eligible occupation.

Eligible Industries and Occupations

The industries and jobs eligible under the Agri-Food Immigration Pilot include:

  • Meat product manufacturing
  • Greenhouse, nursery and floriculture production, including mushroom production
  • Animal production, excluding aquaculture
    • cattle ranching and farming
    • hog and pig farming
    • poultry and egg production
    • sheep and goat farming
    • other animal production
  • Retail butchers
  • Industrial butchers
  • Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers
  • Food processing labourers
  • General farm workers
  • Harvesting labourers

Program Requirements

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for permanent residence under the Agri-Food Immigration Pilot:

  • Work Experience: a minimum of 1 year of non-seasonal, full-time Canadian work experience in the past 3 years in any of theeligible occupations that was gotten through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
  • Job Offer: Applicants need to have a Job offer in Canada that is full time, non-seasonal and must be permanent
  • Language test in either English or French with at least a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) Level 4 in all four skills.
  • Educational requirements: Applicants can either have a Canadian high school diploma or educational assessment of a foreign credential that meets or exceeds Canadian high school diploma.
  • Settlement funds: For applicants already working in Canada on a valid work permit, this is not a requirement. However, for others, they will need to show they have enough money to settle in Canada. This sum must include living expenses for applicants' family members whether they are accompanying or not.

Once applicants meet all the requirements, they may then proceed to apply for permanent residence.
